April 26 // A Weekend in Charlotte

Everyone’s weeks are busy, so I know I’m not unique in feeling like my days are flying by—but lately, they really are. I feel it every night when I crawl into bed; it’s as if I was just doing the same thing five minutes ago. It’s hard to stay present and appreciate the little moments. I try so hard to keep an organized calendar, manage the kids’ activities, stay on track at work, and nurture friendships and family relationships… phew. It’s a full-time job just keeping life scheduled.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend my 20th high school reunion in Charlotte, and my amazing sister came to Memphis to stay with the kids (see amazing sister images below). My parents are in the process of downsizing, so I was able to spend one last night in my childhood bedroom. I also got to introduce Will to so many friends I haven’t seen in two decades.

You know I love a moment of reflection—high school wasn’t the easiest time for me. Being uprooted from my life and friends in London as a teenager was hard, and this weekend felt like a true full-circle moment. Today, I’m feeling especially grateful—for friendships I may have taken for granted, for the city of Charlotte (we truly ate and drank our way through the weekend), and for my parents, who have always been such a steady pillar in my life.

I love this dress I got last year and my favorite scarf from Saved NY. Bernardo sandals are my go-to, and they’re having a sale right now—so I may go ahead and stock up.

Letters I am writing:

  • Sister Sally: for being the best, most energetic aunt and staying with my kids, allowing Will and me a fun weekend away
  • Janie, Trewhitt, Drew & Nancy: for putting together such a wonderful reunion weekend
  • Frank & Brooke: for hosting a lovely (and very fun) afterparty

Jody
