Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Goblet, London 1872

A beautiful example of Victorian English silver, hand-selected in London for our collection. Crafted in sterling silver and hallmarked in London in 1872, during the reign of Queen Victoria, this elegant goblet is more than 150 years old.

The bowl is exceptionally pretty, decorated by hand with delicate engraved swags, foliage and floral motifs beneath an intricate geometric border. The ornamentation continues onto the circular foot, finished with a finely beaded edge, while the slender stem gives the piece a graceful silhouette.

Inside, the goblet retains its rich gold-gilt interior, creating a beautiful contrast against the polished sterling silver. Gilding was traditionally used on the interiors of fine silver drinking vessels both for its decorative effect and to create a protective surface between the silver and the contents of the cup.

At approximately 5½" tall, this is a particularly lovely scale—substantial enough to display beautifully while still feeling delicate and elegant. Originally intended for drinking, it remains just as wonderful today for a celebratory glass of wine or champagne, displayed on a bar or mantel, or collected alongside other pieces of antique English silver.
