Antique Sterling Silver Ring Tree, Birmingham 1921

A charming piece of English silver designed for one of life's prettiest little rituals. This antique sterling silver ring tree was made in Birmingham, England and hallmarked in 1921, during the reign of King George V.

Ring trees were designed to sit upon a dressing table or beside a washstand, their delicate branches providing a place to safely hold rings when they were removed at the end of the day. Examples from Birmingham survive from the late Victorian period through the early decades of the 20th century, often taking wonderfully whimsical tree-like forms.

This example has a graceful central stem surrounded by delicate curling branches, each ready to hold a favorite ring. More than a century later, its original purpose feels just as useful today.
