Letterpress printing
About Letterpress
Letterpress is a traditional printing method produced by hand on heirloom presses — many of which are decades old. The process is slow, intentional, and deeply rooted in craftsmanship.
Unlike flat printing, letterpress creates a physical impression in the paper. The design is pressed into the surface, leaving behind a soft, tactile deboss that you can both see and feel.
The result is romantic, textured, and unmistakably artisanal.
Texture & Depth
Because the design is pressed into the paper, letterpress offers more dimension than flat printing. The impression gives the piece weight and presence without the raised ink of engraving.
Unlike engraving, however, letterpress ink absorbs into the paper. This creates a softer, matte finish rather than the rich opacity of engraved ink.
The effect is elegant and understated — depth through texture rather than shine.
When to Choose Letterpress
Letterpress is a beautiful middle ground between flat printing and engraving.
It is ideal for:
• Birth announcements
• Personal stationery
• Baby shower invitations
• Rehearsal dinner invitations
• Bridal luncheons
Choose letterpress when you care deeply about the hand-printed nature of fine paper and want visible texture and impression — without the investment required for traditional engraving.
Letterpress offers dimension and old-world charm with a softer, more artisanal finish.
A Note on Craftsmanship
Each letterpress piece is printed by hand on traditional presses, one impression at a time. The process requires precision and care, which is why letterpress remains a treasured method in fine paper.
At Stovall, we value texture as much as tradition.
Letterpress offers both — beautifully balanced.
